Abstract

<PICT:0369867/III/1> <PICT:0369867/III/2> <PICT:0369867/III/3> In a machine for mounting patterns or samples on cards, of the kind described in the prior Specification, the gumming mechanism consists of an endless band which is coated by contact with a dipping roller and is momentarily stopped while the transfer stamps are in contact therewith, and the transfer stamps are carried on pairs of oscillating arms pivoted one behind the other, whereby the card may be gummed in a number of places for affixing a corresponding number of samples. The band 28, Fig. 4, passes over a tensioning roller 29 carried by adjustable side members 30, and a roller 27 mounted on a shaft 8 driven through a friction clutch 10, Fig. 1, from a sprocket 9. The band engages a roller 13 dipping into a trough 18 which can be raised and lowered by cranked members 20 operated by links 22 from a central hand-lever 26. The gumming unit is adjustably mounted on the main frame, clamping screws 4 and rollers 2 being provided. The clutch 10 is thrown out of gear by a fork 38 mounted on a longitudinal shaft 39 having arms 41 connected by a rod fitted with leaf springs 43, the pressure of which assists the spring 11 to maintain the clutch 10 engaged. The rod 42 is depressed by engagement with a stop 44, Fig. 6, on one of the oscillating arms, pairs of which are connected by rods 56 on which the transfer stamps 63 are mounted. The arms 45 are carried in slots in the heads 46 of bolts 47 which can be clamped to operating pinions 48 by means of a sleeve 49 engaged by nuts 53, a washer 34 and collar 50 being provided at the ends of the sleeve; by loosening the nuts the arms may be adjusted longitudinally, the pinion rotating idly along the operating rack 55. The pairs of arms 45 are connected by longitudinal rods on which stamps may be mounted similarly to the stamps 63.
