Abstract

<PICT:0368998/III/1> <PICT:0368998/III/2> <PICT:0368998/III/3> For performing electrometrical volumetric analysis by means of the apparatus described in Specification 364,939, as applied to the determination of the dielectric constants of liquids and solids, the titration vessel shown in Fig. 1 of that Specification is replaced by a second condenser K2, between the plates of which the substance under investigation is placed. The dimensions of the coils S1, S2, S3 are reduced in order to obtain a higher frequency. These coils may be mounted on a three-coil holder and may be honeycomb coils of 300, 50, and 100 turns respectively. Fig. 2a shows a construction of the measuring-condenser K2 suitable for use with liquids. For use with solids the form shown in Fig. 2b may be used. This consists of a crucible in which the substance is melted, its dielectric constant being measured on solidifcation. The measurement is effected by first setting the milliammeter MA to zero with the measuring-condenser disconnected, and then taking readings with the measuring-condenser filled successively with air, a standard test liquid such as ether, and the substance to be analysed. From these readings the dielectric constant may be calculated by the use of a formula given in the Specification.
