Abstract
368,871. Well-drilling. A N G L 0- PERSIAN OIL CO., Ltd., Britannic House, Finsbury Circus, London, and SCOTT, L. D., c/o Midland Bank, Bexhill-on-Sea. Dec. 20, 1930, No. 38398. [Class 85.] In drilling oil wells in fields where the oil is under high pressure, leakage of oil or gas during withdrawal of the cable is prevented by providing the polished rod or tube through which the cable passes with a surrounding jacket into which a, viscous fluid packing is forced so that it may pass through holes in the polished rod &c. to pack the cable. As shown, a jacket b is secured to the upper section of the polished rod a by an upper welded collar g and a lower threaded coupling h, the viscous fluid being supplied through a valved pipe d. More than one section, or the whole length of the rod, may be jacketed. The viscous fluid may comprise 85 gallons of water to 1000 lbs. of clay and 224 lbs. of yellow soap. Specification 303,937, [Class 85, Mining &c.], is referred to.
