Abstract
368,671. Road signals for controlling traffic. HEUER, J., Gr³ne, Westphalia, Germany. Sept. 30, 1931, No. 27246. [Class 118 (ii).] Signalling apparatus for controlling road traffic comprises on each face of a casing 13 a two-armed pointer 1 rotating unidirectionally in front of a disc having two green sectors 22, 22<1> and two red sectors 23, 23<1> proportioned according to the requirements. Yellow sectors may also be provided. The pointers may be white and provided with holes 24. At the rim of each disc a tubular spring ring 19 is held by a spring 20, the ring 19 being divided into alternate black and white segments. The pointer spindles 6 are driven by an electromotor 3 through bevel gears 5. Elliptical gearing may be used to accelerate the rotation near the transition points from red to green. The casing 13 has a translucent roof 16 and is suspended from the ends of a bar 27. Road signs 30 are provided. Fig. 8 shows a pointer and disc for the bottom of the casing, four red and four green sectors being provided. Regulations for use with this disc may allow traffic to turn right or left at certain periods.
