Abstract

368,372. Sack-holders. KIRKWOOD, W., Queenswell Lane Works, Forfar. Dec. 4, 1930, Nos. 36568/30 and 24626/31. [Class 58.] A frame 23 is provided with a platform 24 having holes 25 from the edge of each of which depends an annular wall 25 against which a sack may be clamped by the curved outer parts 26<2> of a pair of arms 26 pivoted to the frame. The lower edge of each wall 25 may be beaded. A closing and spreading member 27 mounted on each pair of arms is provided with an axially movable actuating rod 28 that extends to the front of the device and terminates in a handle 29. Above the platform a hopper or hoppers 30 is or are slidably mounted each hopper being provided with handles and having an opening corresponding substantially in size with the hole 25. Potatoes from a dressing device are fed into a sack from one of the hoppers and when the sack is filled the hopper is slid over the next opening to fill the sack attached below. During the filling of the second sack the first sack is removed and weighed and an empty sack substituted therefor. A manually-operated door 33 may be interposed between the hopper and the platform : this door may be connected to and actuated by the rod 28 of the sackclamping device. A portable sieve 35 may be adjustably fitted on the hopper. A platform 34 for the attendant is provided.
