Abstract

368,003. Boring - heads ; grinding. BAILEY, J. W., 82, Dyne Road, Brondesbury, London. Jan. 21, 1931, No. 1999. [Class 83 (iii).] In boring or grinding heads for use on cylinders &c. of the kind employing cutters of different widths to adjust the head to different diameters, detachable annular rigid means are provided for supporting the wider cutters. As applied to grinding, the stones A, Figs. 1 and 2, are held within metal sheaths in holders B either attached to or formed integral with plates C which are radially adjustable within grooves D in endplates E held together by distance rods F. Inclined surfaces G on the plates coact with cones J to vary the diameter of the head on rotation of a central screwed rod H by a graduated dial. but other means of adjustment may be used, Radially slotted rings K, held axially by distance rods N, are applied to the plates E to support the larger plates C and are prevented from rotating by keys L. The plates C are normally urged inwards by spring coils M. In a boring-head the radial cutters O are adjusted within slots in a body S by means of a scroll plate P. A sleeve T, held on the body by a knurled nut U, is slotted to receive and support the larger cutters O and is prevented from rotating by a screw engaging a slot &c. Y in the body.
