Abstract
367,873. Weaving fabrics with diagonal strands of metal, cane, &c. RILEY, R. B., 2, Bradford Road, Newton Highlands, Massachusetts, U.S.A. Oct. 21, 1930, Nos. 31629 and 31630. [Class 142 (iv).] Woven open mesh grilles or non-flaccid fabrics are produced in a variety of designs by stopping the feed of different strands in certain or all of the sets of weft, warp or diagonal strands employed in the manufacture of a basic fabric such as that shown in Fig. 1. The improved fabric comprises three independent sets of strands A, B, C, Fig. 2, which are positioned in normal straight condition one above the other, the diagonals A, B and the vertical strands C being respectively raised and depressed, by the mechanism described in Specification 273,860, [Class 142 (iv), Woven fabrics &c.], to form a shed into which a locking strand D is inserted. In a modification the fabric comprises two separate sets of strands A, B, Fig. 6, which are raised or depressed at intervals to permit the insertion of the locking strands D. The strands, which may be of any desired section, are composed of non-flaccid materials such as metal, cane, reed, or spun paper, and the fabrics formed therefrom may be used for seats of chairs, baskets, grilles and panelling, fencing or as reinforcing material. They may also be used as panelling for fireside and portable screens, gramophone and wireless cabinets, or for book racks.
