Abstract

<PICT:0367439/IV/1> <PICT:0367439/IV/2> A spinning jet for the manufacture of artificial filaments comprises a body member 10, a face member or plug 11 having an edge adapted to be forced into contact with a seat in the body member, notches being formed at the surface of contact 21. The notches may be cut in the plug, or body member, or in both, if desired in such manner that the resulting orifices taper inwardly as they lead out of the jet body. The surface of contact is preferably conical and the plug may have a conical edge tapering inwardly and adapted to be drawn inwardly on to its seating, Fig. 1, by a screw 12, or have a conical edge tapering outwardly and adapted to be forced outwardly on to its seating, Fig. 3, by a screwed member 22. The body member is attached to a candle filter 7 by a jet attachment 8. The orifices cut in the plug and/or body member may be of any desired shape, e.g. circular, lozenge-shape, square, &c., and the plug and/or body member may also be provided with an annular groove to decrease the length of the spinning orifices.
