Abstract

366,935. Docking and launching ships. HENDERSON, A., 21, Bridge Street, Aberdeen. Nov. 10, 1930, No. 33730, [Class 68 (ii).] In a modification of the docking and launching system described in Specification 177,054, [Class 68 (ii), Subaqueous buildings &c.], there are provided a plurality of side berths, each formed of short lengths of rails parallel with and at the same level and gauge as the main slipway, and a plurality of cradles, each in the form of a unit structure, upon which vessels can be blocked up and transferred to the side berths. To transfer a vessel from the water to a side berth, a cradle c is run down the slip-way a under the control of the haulage gear, and the vessel is then secured and blocked on the cradle in the usual way. It is then drawn up the slipway until the wheels of the cradle are resting on the rails a<2> of the traversing carriages d, to which the cradle is then secured. The carriages d are then moved transversely on the rails b by means of the traversing-gear g until the rails a<2> are in register with the fixed longitudinal rails a<1> of a selected side berth ; the cradle c is then run down on to these fixed rails, and the traversing-carriages d withdrawn. Additional side berths are provided by extending the rails a<1>, as shown. The haulage-gear may be moved transversely with the traversing- carriages d, or each berth may have its own haulage gear.
