Abstract

365,274. Rubberized fabrics. GUMMIWERKE FULDA AKT.- GES., Fulda, Germany. Dec. 18, 1930, No. 38176. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1929. [Class 140.] A rubberized fabric consisting mainly of warp threads with weft threads at intervals is made by inserting weft threads at intervals into an assembly of warp threads immediately before passing the web through rubber latex or solution, the weft threads being so arranged that each warp thread along the whole of its length is engaged only from the bottom or from the top by the weft threads. The warp threads or cords are drawn from rollers 1, as shown in the Figure, passed through a comb 4, and over bars tc a shuttle device 6 which inserts the weft threads. These may be inserted at any desired intervals, e.g. from 10 to 50 centimetres apart. The weft thread is cut off after each insertion. The warp threads are led over and under the device 6 alternately, in pairs alternate y, or in any other arrangement, and the weft threads are always passed either above or below any one warp thread. The warp threads are kept under tension, so that they are straight and lie in one plane in the finished fabric, while the weft threads are waved. From the device 6 the web passes over a bar 7 and a roller 8, through the bath 14 of rubber latex or solution, and between pressure rollers 11, 12. It then passes to a drying device and is wound up. The drying device consists of a chamber in which the fabric is dried under tension by means of hot air. The fabric obtained may be given a further coating of rubber.
