[Class 44.] A filing cabinet comprises a compartment provided with a closure adapted to be slidably moved to the open or closed position the cabinet and closure being rendered fireresistant by forming them from sheet metal casings into which is moulded a fluent plastic material 12, Figs. 1 and 3, which subsequently hardens and dries and the cabinet is mounted on a stand having legs 7 provided with castors 8. The longitudinal edges of the cabinet are provided with channels 27 and beads 23, Fig. 6, the rear edge with a.channel 20 and projection 18 and the front edge with a groove' 30 with which complementary parts on the cover engage in the closed position and the channels 27 are open at the front of the cabinet and the beads 23 adjacent thereto are then cut away to accommodate rollers 35 which are rotatably mounted in the sides of the cabinet to support the closure in its opening and closing movement. The rollers 35 run on tracks 61 in the grooves 60 of the closure which engage the beads 23 and the grooves are upwardly inclined at the front of the closure so that, at the end of the closing movement, the closure drops and the grooves and projections on the cabinet and cover firmly engage to provide a seat between them. The closure is locked in the closed position by a key-operated lock 87, Fig. 8, having a bolt 88 engaging a keeper 89 mounted in the front of the closure, the lock being carried in a bracket 90 embedded in the lining of the front of the cabinet and disposed in a recess 91 closed by a removable plate 92.
