Abstract

Stable diazo preparations are made by reaction between a diazonium salt and a di- or polysulphonic acid of a halogenated aromatic hydrocarbon. They are useful for dyeing by the ice-colour process and may be mixed with diluents or assistants, e.g. alum. In examples, (1) diazotized m-nitraniline is treated with 1 : 2 : 4 - chlorbenzenedisulphonate or with disulphonated 1 : 4-dichlorobenzene, (2) diazotized 3-nitro-4-amino-1-toluene is treated as above or with a chlortoluene or chloronaphthalene disulphonic acid, (3) diazotized 4-chloro-2-nitraniline is treated as above; if the diazo solution is neutralized a double salt is obtained, (4) diazotized p-nitraniline is precipitated with disulphonated 1-chlornaphthalene; tetrazotized dianisidine or diazotized 2 : 5-dichloraniline may be similarly treated, e.g. with chlortoluenedisulphonic acids, (5) cotton padded with 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic anilide is developed with the product of (3) in acetic acid solution; other coupling components are specified.
