Abstract

364,486. Boot - making machines. WALTHER & CO., KOMM. GES., H., Oberrad, Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. May 13, 1931, No. 14167. Convention date, May 15, 1930. [Class 17 (i).] Sole-laying; heels, facing.-In the manufacture of shoes having a leather flap covering the heel breast integral with the sole, the sole and flap are cemented to the shoe in a single working step. A multiple press of the rotary type is provided with a heel support 13 mounted on a lever 12 to which is pivoted a lever 15 one end of which is urged anticlockwise by a spring 16 and the other end provided with a stop 18 and surfaces co-operating with a roll on a cam-operated plunger 19, this mechanism being provided for each press unit. At the workchanging station, a fixed cam engages a roll 21 on the plunger 19, which first descends, allowing the pad 13 to swing away from the heel, and, when a fresh work piece has been substituted, rises to support the heel against the thrust of the fluid filled pad 7. The lever 15 has a notch 25 for looking the mechanism operating the pad 13 while the press performs its circuit.
