Abstract

364,122. Cables. HACKETHALDRAHTUND KABEL-WERKE AKT.- GES., Staderlandstrasse, Hanover, Germany. Oct. 1, 1930, No. 29409. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1929. [Class 36.] In the stranding machine of the type comprising guides between the stranding heads and nipple adapted to be given a rotary oscillation to produce a to-and-fro movement of the cross-talk compensating pairs in a compensating length of quadded cable, the guides are each adapted to receive two unstranded cores and to be oscillated from cams which drive sleeves sliding on the main shaft to transmit motion to the guides through rack, pinion and bevel gear. In the embodiment, double guides 11, 12 are mounted between a stranding nipple k and rotating frames a .. d. Each guide, Fig. 4, comprises tubes 13 which are fixed in a common tube 14 rotatable in a bearing 15. The cores pass untwinned through the tubes 13. For normal D.M. stranding the guides 11, 12 are positively connected to the rotating frames by cardan shafts 16, 17. For compensating stranding, the shaft connection is broken and a connection n is coupled up as shown. Cams x, y engage rollers on levers w, v which are pressed by springs z against the cams and which transmit the movement to sliding rings q, r on a main shaft p. Each ring q, r is connected to a rack s, and a spur and bevel wheel system t turns the reciprocating movement into rotary oscillation. In order to fix the cores in position in the cable and for spacing, each pair may be wound with a thread or paper strip. Fig. 5 shows the fitting of a thread winder to the guides. The rotation of the head provides the drive, a gear wheel 0 rolling on a stationary gear wheel N to transmit the rotation through a shaft P, gears 20, 21 and a sleeve Q to the winder R. The control apparatus of gearing and cams for the guides 11, 12 may be fitted beyond the stranding machine, the main shaft p being formed with a backward extension. The drive of the control apparatus is taken either from the stranding head or take-off shaft, which ever is run at constant speed. When the cam systems run at different speeds, means, such as claw or friction couplings, are provided to connect the shafts of the cams alternately to the faster and slower running drive mechanism. The change-over may be automatically controlled by a cross-shaft which at the point of reversal actuates switch-over levers. The machine may be applied to stranding groups of higher order, e.g. for eights, the cores are replaced by pairs. Specifications 356,376 and 360,456 are referred to.
