Abstract
364,099. Loud-speakers. COLASSI, W. L., 26, Burnham Court, Bayswater, London. Sept. 29, 1930, No. 29129. [Class 40 (iv).] Relates to a loudspeaker unit of the type having a reed formed with an armature portion and radiating supporting arms adapted to be tensioned, the armature portion being arranged in operative relation to a magnet polepiece or polepieces, with or without means for adjusting the relative position of the armature and magnet. According to the invention, a compression member is inserted between the mountings of the supporting arms so as to urge the mountings in the direction in which the tension is to be applied. The mountings may comprise pillars, parallel or inclined to one another, and wedging members in the form of rollers may be inserted between the magnets and pillars whereby on movement of the magnet the tension remains constant or is varied. Fig. 1 shows such a construction in which a is the reed, b the pillars mounted on the base c, d is the magnet and e the rollers. As shown, the pillars are recessed at f to limit the extreme movement of the rollers, the walls of the recesses being arranged parallel with the walls of the pillars so that adjustment of the magnet to. and from the reed will not affect the tension on the supporting arms. Fig. 4 shows a modification in which the tensioning means comprises a bar g, one end of which is hollowed at h to seat against one of the pillars whilst the other end is drilled at j to receive the reduced end k of a threaded pin m. The thread of the pin m engages a threaded hole in a member n which is shaped to seat firmly against the other pillar, rotation of the pin m increasing or decreasing the distance between the shaped ends. Each of these ends may be provided with a lug p adapted to pass through apertures in the radiating arms so that the pillars are engaged by the device both above and below the reed. The bar g is provided with an aperture q for the passage of the driving rod connecting the reed to the diaphragm.
