Abstract
Phenol-hexamethylenetetramine condensation products are made by acting on a phenol with hexamethylenetetramine (or mixtures of formaldehyde and ammonia) to produce a reactive resin and adding to the partially reacted ingredients a retarding agent comprising one or more of the following:--a natural resin, e.g. rosin, dammar and hard manila, xylidines, toluidines, benzidine and diphenylamine and thereafter continuing the reaction. When incorporated with fillers, e.g. mica, moulding mixtures are obtained which yield moulded articles characterized by very low phase angle difference and electrical power factor. The resins obtained by heating the potentially active resins to the infusible state are also specified as fillers. In an example, phenol (3 mols.) and hexamethylenetetramine (1 mol.) are reacted cautiously until the viscosity has increased, when melted rosin is stirred in and the reaction continued. Various moulding mixtures are specified. The resins may also be used for varnishes and impregnation purposes.ALSO:The resins made by acting on a phenol with hexamethylenetetramine (or mixtures of formaldehyde and ammonia) to produce a reactive resin and adding to the partially reacted ingredients a retarding agent, i.e. a natural resin, xylidines, toluidines, benzidine, or diphenylamine and thereafter continuing the reaction are mixed with fillers to produce moulding mixtures. Several examples are given.
