Abstract
363,663. Pipes, columns,. posts, &c. SHERRARD, J. H., 33, Rosemount Avenue, Westmount, Quebec, Canada. Sept. 22, 1930, No. 28270. [Class 99 (ii).] A pipe, column, pole, &c. consists of a thinwalled metal core 11 reinforced by an external layer of metal fabric 12 which is composed of a series of interlocked helically formed members 13 preferably flattened and disposed parallel with the axis of the core. The core may also be provided internally with a similar layer of fabric 19 the helical members 20 of which are disposed circumferentially of the core. The external layer, which may have longitudinal reinforcing bars 16, 17 welded thereto or to the core, is tensioned longitudinally and circumferentially of the core and is connected thereto at a number of points by welding &c. A coating 15, and preferably a lining 21, of cement &c., provided with reinforcement 18, 22 respectively, is applied' to the core, and where the core is lined this operation is preferably effected before the application of the external reinforcing fabric: One end of the core may be enlarged to facilitate the jointing of adjacent pipe &c. lengths.
