Abstract
363,374. Directive wireless signalling. ROSE,.R. L. SMITH. and THOMAS, H. A., National Physical Laboratory, Teddington, Middlesex. July, 17, 1930, No. 21679. [Class 40 (v).] In a system in which the signals from a rotating beacon transmitter are recorded on a record sheet rotated synchronously with the beacon or at a rate depending on the beacon rate, the rotating member is a drum associated with a graduated protractor scale enabling the direction of the transmitter to be read off directly. A phonic motor 9 controlled by a vibrating tuning fork drives the drum 1 synchronously with the beacon through the worm wheel 6. Another worm 10 on the motor shaft drives the threaded shaft 12 for traversing the electromagnetic marking device 16 and stylus 18 across a scale 19 mounted on the drum 1. A protractor scale 21 is mounted coaxially with the drum and is adapted to be rotated relatively thereto for determining the bearing from the record. The phonic motor may be replaced by a governed clockwork drive or a synchronous A.C. motor, and the stylus may be operated only when the signals are above predetermined minimum intensity.
