363,332. Moulding clutch friction faces by extrusion. RAYBESTOS-MANHATTAN, Inc., 1427, Railroad Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Repony, D. ; 365, Clifton Avenue, Passaic, New Jersey, U.S.A.) June 12, 1930, No. 18043. Convention date, May 8. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 87 (ii).] A friction facing material for clutches and other articles is made from asbestos fibre with a binder and fillers, the mixture being brought to a malleable consistency and then formed into a sheet all faces of which are trowelled s i m u 1- taneously under heavy pressure. Suitable binders which may be used are rubber, resin, oil or asphalt, and suitable fillers are pyrites, graphite, litharge, and sulphur. When the materials are mixed to the desired consistency the mixture may be inserted in a cylinder 1 having a piston 2 which is operated so as to extrude the material out of a slot 3 in sheet form. The sheet is then cut into friction rings which are dried, first in air and afterwards in a vacuum drier with the aid of heat, and afterwards cured or vulcanized in a mould. The latter may be provided with projections to form rivet holes in the rings.
