Abstract
362,799. Gear-cutting. MUYLDER, E. VAN, 25, Rue Louis de Coninck, Berchem, Antwerp, Belgium. March 12, 1931, No. 7630. Convention date, March 24, 1930. [Class 83 (iii).] In a machine for generating toothed gears, a shaft 7 which is oscillated from a crank disc 2 through links 4, 6, is connected through a lever 8 and links 10 to a slide 12 carrying flexible bands passing over a master cylinder 15 on a spindle 16 carrying the blank 17. A further lever 18 on the shaft 7 is connected through a telescopic link 20 to a slide 22 provided with an adjustable slide 24 carrying a cutting or grinding tool 23 driven by a pulley 27. Thus if the pivots 9, 19 are at equal distances from the shaft 7 and the links 10, 20 are of equal length, the tangential movement of the cutter slide will be the same as that of the slide 12 and the rotation of the blank will be in unison with this movement so that the cutter will generate teeth having the same base circle diameter as the cylinder 15. For cutting smaller or larger gears from the same master cylinder the pivot 19 is adjusted to or from the shaft 7 and the link 20 is proportionately adjusted by means of an inclined slideway 21a. The flexible band device may be replaced by equivalent rolling mechanism. By adjusting the location of the pivots 19, 21 from their theoretical positions teeth differing slightly from the theoretical profile may be cut.
