Abstract

362,627. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Nov. 12, 1930, No. 34062. Convention date, Jan. 22. [Class 39 (i).] Indirectly heated cathodes foi electron discharge apparatus and particularly for gas-filled rectifiers comprise a unitary body of substantial cross section and of electrically conductive material formed with a number of passages of cross section small compared with the linear dimensions of the body, a heating, element insulated from the body being threaded through the passages. The body may be a nickel cylinder 1 with passages 3, Fig. 3, in its walls, the passages being lined with steatite tubes and a heating wire 2 being passed successively through the tubes. The cylinder 1 may have on its inside or outside surface a helical conductor coated with electron emissive material or the inside of the cylinder may have an irregular or corrugated surface to carry this material 5, which may consist of one or more oxides, carbides or silicates of barium, strontium, caesium, rubidium, &c. In a rectifier, Fig. 4, the cylinder 1 is supported by wires 6, 7 relatively to two anodes 10, 11, leads 8, 9 shown incomplete being connected to the ends of the wire 2.
