Abstract

242,946. Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken. Nov. 17, 1924, [Convention date]. Addition to 235,141. R÷ntgen-ray tubes.-In a high-voltage tube; having the part of the container between the electrodes composed of alternate sections of conductive and insulating material as described in the parent Specification, the conductive sections are now connected to conductive partitions which subdivide the space in which undesired discharges might occur. In the X-ray tube shown, the partitions 25-28 extend from the conductive rings 16, 17, 19, 20 towards the middle of the length of the tube, where they overlap one another around a metal cup 5 enclosing the incandescent cathode 4. A hood 30 attached to and surrounding the anticathode also surrounds the end of the cup 5, in which is an aperture for the cathode and X- rays, the latter emerging through a window 9. Another metal hood 29, also attached to the anticathode, surrounds the re-entrant stem supporting that electrode. One end of the filament cathode is attached to the metal cup 5. Leading-in wires to the cathode are surrounded by glass tubes 13. The conductive rings 16-20 are connected to intermediate points on the secondary winding of a transformer 36 supplying the high-tension current, at, say, 300,000 volts. The mid point of the winding is earthed on the transformer core. A second transformer 35 supplies the cathode with heating-current. Regulating-resistances are in series with the primary windings of the two transformers. The partitions and metal sections of the container may be of chrome-iron. Specification 209,833 is referred to.
