Abstract

362,617. Wrapping-machines. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. and GROVER, F., Oakhurst Avenue, Dewsbury Road, Leeds. Nov. 7, 1930, No. 33516. [Class 94 (i).] The machine wraps cylindrical objects, or cylindrical, elliptical or octagonal assemblies of coins or other objects, in cellulose sheet material or like transparent wrappers. The articles E are placed in pockets B on chains A and are carried, by intermittent movements, to position I to lie coaxially with formers F<1>, Fig. 3, one at each end of the article. A wrapper J is fed to the position shown in Fig. 1, and is then gripped against the former at each end of the article by a spring gripper H, which is moved by the operation of a rod I<1>. The formers are moved slightly apart to draw the leading edge of the wrapper taut and are then rotated to enclose the article as shown in Fig. 7. The grippers are released and the formers are withdrawn axially, provision being made for the ingress of air to the spaces vacated. By making the surface F<3>, against which the grippers press the wrapper, less protuberant than the general cylindrical surface of the former, accommodation is made for the slight movement of the grippers in the releasing movement. Lateral displacement during withdrawal is prevented by thin blades G<1>, Fig. 5, of segmented shape and adapted to impinge slightly against the outer edges of the object without interfering with the wrapper formation. The outwardly extending edges of the wrapper may be twisted or folded by known devices N.
