Abstract

Processes for the treatment of textiles in aqueous non-dyeing baths are improved by the addition of one or more morpholines, free from chromophorous groups, or salts thereof, to the baths, with or without the addition of dispersing agents or organic solvents. In addition to morpholine itself, its N-methyl, N-hydroxyethyl, N-phenyl, N-cyclohexyl, and 2 : 6-dimethyl derivatives are specified; they may be employed as such or in the form of their salts with inorganic or organic acids, e.g. with hydrochloric, sulphuric, formic or acetic acids or with the acids of animal or vegetable oils or fats. Suitable dispersing agents are soaps, Turkey red oils, alkylated aromatic sulphonic acids or their salts or condensation products from amines or hydroxyalkylamines with fatty acids, e.g. oleic or stearic acid, or with sulphonic acids, e.g. sulphonate dpalmitic acid. As organic solvents, benzine and carbon tetrachloride are specified. In examples (1) N-hydroxyethylmorpholine (obtained by splitting off water from triethanolamine by treatment with sulphuric acid) is added to a bucking bath for cotton, containing caustic soda and soda, (2) morpholine or 2 : 6-dimethylmorpholine (obtained by splitting off water from diisopropanolamine by treating with sulphuric acid), or the product obtained by neutralizing 2 : 6-dimethylmorpholine with a fatty acid, e.g. oleic acid, or with palmitic sulphonic acid, is employed together with soap for scouring wool waste containing oil or fat, and (3) a stripping bath for wool waste contains zinc formaldehyde-sulphoxylate, formic acid and N-cyclohexyl morpholine (obtained by splitting off water from cyclohexyl diethanolamine), which has preferably been neutralized with oleic acid or with sulphonation products of aliphatic compounds containing at least 8 carbon atoms, e.g. oleic sulphonic acid, stearic sulphonic acid, Turkey red oil acid or the acid sulphuric ester of cetyl alcohol. Specifications 104,684, 136,578, [both in Class 120 (iii), Yarns &c.], 295,024, and 309,842, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], are referred to.
