Dec. 5, 1930, No. 36742. Convention date, Jan. 13. [Class 65 (i).] A check strap, intended particularly for use with vehicle doors, comprises a flat spring steel member 3 pivoted at its lower end 4 to the pillar 2 and formed at the upper end 5 with an elongated slot 11 in which engages a bolt 12 secured to the door 1, the arrangement being such that when the door is closed, as shown in Fig. 2, the strap is entirely concealed between the abutting edges of the door and its pillar. The strap is formed with an intermediate twisted portion 6 which prevents rattling when the door is closed and also ensures that the checking action is gradually in. creased as the door swings towards its open position. A modification is described in which the rivet or bolt 8, serving as the pivot for the lower end of the strap, is replaced by a screw engaging in a threaded hole in the pillar 2, this construction enabling the check to be fitted after the vehicle body is trimmed.
