Abstract

Aug. 20, 1930, No. 24945. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1929. [Class 44.] A control knob 5 is held on the shaft 9 by means of a bowed spring 13 in a central cavity of the knob engaging a flat on the end of the shaft. The elements are shown assembled in Fig. 1 and separated in Fig. 2. The cavity in the knob consists of a part 16 of rectangular section in which the spring 13 is located, and a V-shaped portion 14 which engages the cylindrical surface of the shaft 9. At the junction of the rectangular and V portions are shoulders or ledges 17 which position the spring 13. The curled ends 18 of this spring are slightly deformed laterally as shown in Fig. 3. When the spring 13 is placed in the cavity and the knob pressed into place on the shaft, the deformed corners of the spring cut into the walls of the cavity and serve to retain the spring in place permanently when the knob is removed from the shaft.
