Abstract

360,731. Tubular fabrics; circular looms. ETABLISSEMENTS ROTATISS, 14, Rue Frederick Lemaitre, Paris. Dec. 24, 1930, No. 38927. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1929. [Classes 142 (ii) and 142 (iv).] A tubular fabric for covering electric wires &c. has spiral warp and weft threads 41, 126, Fig. 8, making different angles with the axis of the tube, which may have a large number of threads 41 and a small number of threads 126 or vice versa. The fabric is woven on a circular loom which is somewhat as described in Specification 307,400, [Class 142 (iv), Woven fabrics &c.], but modified so that the warp spools 14, Fig. 5, may revolve around the loom. The spools 14 are carried by spindles 13 on the rim 1'2 of a container 7, which is rotated on ball bearings about a fixed vertical hollow shaft 4 in fixed casing 3 by worm gearing 48, 49 and a shaft 44, Figs. 2 and 5, driven by belt gearing from a motor 46. The shuttles 43 are driven more quickly than the spools 14 and in the contrary direction by rollers 26 on shafts 22 carried by ball bearings on a plate 18, which is rotated on ball bearings around the hub of the container 7 by large pinions 54 on shafts 52 carried by the container engaging a pinion 56 on the hub of the plate 18. Small pinions 53 on the shafts 52 engage a stationary ring 55. Spring-controlled plungers 25 act on the ends of the shafts 22 and force friction cones 27 thereon into engagement with friction members 28 on a circular member 11 of the container 7. The shuttles have rollers engaged by the rollers 26, and side supports 16 sliding in circular grooves in a raised crown 15 and in the member 11. The warps 41 pass from the spools 14 behind rods 32 and into guide-eyes 33, Fig. 6, in coiled spring metal wires 34 which are attached to angle brackets 35 and pass through notches in spring-controlled tappets 36 bearing on a fixed corrugated circular cam member 37, whereby the guide-eyes 33 are raised and lowered and the warp threads are selected. The core 42 passes through the hollow shaft 4 from a drum 97, which is braked by a weighted cord and is arranged at the top of two inclines 99 and held in position by two shoes 101 keyed by pegs 102. The sheathed core 91 passes through an open guide tube 94 carried by coils 92 to a slightly conical traction drum 61 driven through change-speed gearing, bevel gearing and worm gearing, a tail piece 89 on an adjustable slide 88 guiding the sheathed core, on to the drum 61. The sheathed core is finally wound on to a belt-driven drum 107 on to which it is guided by a grooved pulley 116, Fig. 7, on a member 117 traversed on a shaft 73, a double threaded screw on a shaft 122 driven by belt gearing, engaging a button 119 on a tail portion 118.
