[Class 3 (ii).] In a sign of the kind wherein strips of glass &c. are secured in slits in a baseplate to form letters or designs which are illuminated from the rear, the strips are provided with edges which overlap stencil interruptions between groups of slits constituting an individual character or design, so that the latter is substantially continuous and free from a stencil-like broken effect. As shown, applied to the formation of the letter " O," the strips of glass 4 have their rear edges cut away at 6 so as to overlap the stencilinterruptions 3, 3, when placed in the slits 2, 2. Specification 349,617 is referred to. The Provisional Specification describes an arrangement in which the bases of the strips have a flange which can be integrally moulded or built up of lengths of glass cemented to the strips, and/or secured by clips, to form ends of T-section. In this case the strips are inserted through the slits from the rear of the baseplate and then secured by a binding or cementing medium.
