360,428. Gyroscopic apparatus. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO., Inc., Manhattan Bridge Plaza, Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Wittkuhns, B. ; 5, Garden Place, Chatham, New Jersey, and Watkins, F. M. ; 191, Puritan Avenue, Forest Hills, New York, both in U.S.A.) July 26, 1930, No. 22587. Convention date, July 27, 1929. [Class 97 (iii).] An arrangement for controlling a motor driving the follow-up element of a gyroscopic apparatus comprises a transformer having a pair of normally balanced opposed secondary windings 9, 10 mounted on a core part 2 carried by the spider gear 4 of the follow-up element and co-operating with a movable core part 1 carried by the sensitive element 5. The arrangement is such that displacement of the latter from the neutral position indicated causes a resultant secondary voltage, having a phase relationship to the current in the primary winding 8 dependent on the direction of movement, to be applied to the grid of the first valve of an amplifier system the output from which feeds one winding of a motor driving the follow-up system. The arrangement is adapted to produce a sluggish non-hunting system. Preferably, a controllable amount of hunting is introduced.
