Abstract
360,366. Washing gases. SNOW, N. L., New Canaan, Connecticut, U.S.A. Aug. 1, 1930, No. 23266. [Class 55 (ii).] Dust is removed from gases by a staggered arrangement of flat-sided baffles of appreciable width or thickness over the entire surface of which liquid flows downwards. The baffles 22 are of rhomboid section,and disposed vertically in a casing having a tank 20 at the top, and a sloping bottom 18 leading to a valve-controlled liquid outlet. The baffles may be of square, oblong or octagonal section, and may be hollow.. Nozzles 38 in the tank bottom deliver to troughs formed between the bevelled tops of the baffles, Fig. 3, and flanges 35 secured to them and having serrated upper edges between which liquid flows down the baffle faces. The troughs and the spaces between the teeth are kept clean by liquid jets delivered through nozzles 42, 43 from conduits 44, 40. Fig. 12 shows a modified arrangement of liquid supply in which the baffle tops extend upwards through the tank bottom and spring-pressed plates 91 limited by stops control the liquid flow. A sleeve 100, capable of depression against spring pressure, allows the plates 91 to be swept aside and accumulated dust flushed out.
