Abstract

360,134. Endless belt conveyers. SCOTT, F., 20, Oak Terrace, Cockton Hill, Bishop Auckland, and BAINBRIDGE, F., 6, Highcliffe Terrace, Ferryhill, both in Co. Durham. Sept. 26, 1930, No. 28808. [Class 78 (i).]. In conveyers of the type in which the belt G is supported by an expanding frame E by which its effective length can be varied, one end of the frame is attached to a housing B into which the belt, &c. can be withdrawn to facilitate the transporting of the device. The rear drum A<2> of a pair of drums A<1>, A<3> mounted in the housing is driven by a compressed air or electric motor C, Fig. 4, carried on a wall of the housing, and its shaft carries also a haulage drum D. Either the drum A2 or the drum D may be coupled to the shaft by a friction clutch c<1>. The drum A<1> is driven by the drum A<2> through a band a<1>, Fig. 1..The end e of a pair of lazytongs E is fixed to the housing B, and the other end e<1> is attached to a support F carrying a drum F<1>. Rollers e2 are attached at intervals to the bottom joints of the lazy tongs, and smaller rollers e<3> are mounted on the pivots at the top and bottom. The belt G passes around the drums A<1>, A2, over the rollers e<3>, around the drum F<1>, and back to the drums A<1>, A<2>. A rope f attached to the support F is passed around wheels F<2> attached to a prop H and is secured to the drum D. If the drum D is clutched to its shaft and the motor started, the rope f will be wound on the drum and the conveyer extended. When the desired extension has been attained, the drum D is declutched, and after removing the pin g, Fig. 6, which attaches the belt G to a lug g<1> on the band a<1>, the drum A<2> is connected to the shaft, and the conveyer is ready for use. The drums A<1>, A<2> may be replaced by a single drum to which the belt is clipped for purposes of contraction, and the lazytongs may be actuated by screws or links. Telescopic tubes may be used instead of the lazy tongs.
