Abstract
358,981. Moulding coal blocks. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP SILICA EN OVENBOUW MIJ, 17, Raamweg, The Hague.-(Assignees of Otto & Co., Ges., Dr. C.; 9, Christstrasse, Bochum, Germany.) July 16, 1930, No. 21549. Convention date, July 16, 1929. [Class 87 (ii).] Coal cakes of 4-5 metres in height and of about half a metre in thickness are made by delivering coal from a hopper a through distributors b and a shoot c to a mould comprising a floor f<1>, side members, and detachable ends #<2>, #<3>, the mould being mounted on a wheeled carriage with provision g for the transverse movement of the mould on the carriage. The mould is positioned under the shoot c and successive charges of coal are rammed by hydraulic tampers q whose ramming heads are concave and extend substantially over the whole area of the mould. The mould with the rammed block is transported by the device g into the furnace and the ends #<2>, #<3> are detached, whereupon the remainder of the mould is withdrawn. The ends f<2>, f<3> are then removed and the furnace doors replaced.
