Abstract
358,781. Moulding-machines. ZIMMERMAN, G., 19, Lindemannstrasse, Dusseldorf, Germany. Nov. 22, 1930, No. 35245. Convention date, June 4. [Class 83 (i).] A machine for moulding sand or clay, having a dashpot 7, Fig. 2, for regulating the speed at which the pattern is lowered away, is characterized in that the liquid expelled from the dashpot cylinder passes through a passage 15 in the plunger 9. The plunger is formed in one with a hollow piston 8, working in a cylinder 6, and a support 10 for an adjustable plate 13. The pot 7 also communicates with the cylinder 6 by means of a passage 17, controlled by a hand-operated valve 16. The cylinder 6 may be mounted on a pivoted arm 3 which carries a jarring device 4 at the other end. The necessary liquid is placed in the hollow piston 8 and an air pipe 19 is arranged in the end of the cylinder 6 out of reach of this liquid. The pipe 19 may be controlled by a simple cock but, if the plate 13 is used to apply pressure, it is controlled by a three-way cock connected to a compressedair supply and to exhaust. After the piston 8 has been moved down to press the material the arm 3 is inverted, the liquid 14 running through valve 16 and passage 17 into pot 7 and return of the piston 8 being prevented by toggle links 26, 27, Fig. 8. The valve 16 is then closed, entirely or to any desired degree, the pipe 19 opened to exhaust and the toggle pulled by handle 29 to allow the piston 8 &c. to fall slowly. The arm 3 is then returned to the original position, the valve in the pipe 19 being first closed. The passage 15 may have a regulating valve.
