[Class 135.] In safety valves wholly or partly loaded by spring action, an expansion chamber 5 is formed between the valve 1 and seat 3 by the use of projections, one curved, thereon, and horizontal passages 2a are provided in the valve or seat in the plane of the meeting surfaces of the valve and seat, so that, during valve lift, the steam first escapes through the passages 2a and then enters the chamber 5 to effect an enhanced lift.
