Abstract
357,398. Washing bottles. BRATBY & HINCHLIFFE, Ltd. and CLARKE, L., Sandford Street, Ancoats, Manchester. Oct. 21, 1930, No. 31624. [Class 138 (i).] In a bottle-washing machine, inverted bottles are carried in trays adapted to hold the bottles in determined positions and manually operable means are provided to advance the trays into the machine to accurately centre the bottles over stationary jets. The trays comprise machined tapered sockets 3 connected by ribs within a rectangular framework machined on the outside, a wire grid 4 being provided. The trays slide on rails 7, a push rod 8 being actuated by pairs of links 11, 12 and cranks 13 on ratchet wheels 14 driven by pawls 15 pivoted to levers 16 connected by a bar 20. In use, a tray of bottles is placed in front of the bar 8 and the bar 20 is reciprocated until the cranks 13 have made one revolution. The bottles are positioned, by the forward movement of the bar 8, over stationary jets, and the return of the bar 8 leaves room for a second tray to be positioned between the first tray and the bar 8. Empty trays may be returned to the feeding end of the machine by a roller conveyer. The trays may be of pressed sheet metal or light alloy castings.
