357,021. Changing signs. MATHYS, A. W., 52, Chancery Lane, London.-(Castenholz, (nÚe Luhr), S., Castenholz, M., and Castenholz, E. ; 10, Seyangasse, Cologne, Germany.) Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36006. [Class 3 (i).] A letterbox with flaps, doors, &c., which normally close openings for the insertion and removal of letters has suspended behind a window an endless, advertisement-carrying band which is moved forward a stage each time the flap covering the insertion slot is raised. When a hinged flap 6 covering the insertion slot is raised, a pawl 8 linked to it operates a ratchet wheel 9 which turns a roller 13 by an endless band 12. The roller 13 carries an endless, transparent, advertisement-carrying band 14 the lower end of which is weighted by a roller 16 journalled into slots in the sides of a casing 10 on the front of the letterbox, the band moving behind a door to the casing: While a clearance door 2 is open, a circuit containing a battery 18 and lamps 17 is closed and the band 14 illuminated. As the door is closed, it may also move the band forward by the same or a similar device to that operated by the flap 6. The box, stamped from a single blank with the sides joined by autogene welding, is enamelled inside and out. A list of people served by the box can be inserted under a transparent covering in a frame 20.
