Abstract
356,944. Photometric apparatus. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., Magnet House, Kingsway, London, and WINCH, G. T., of General Electric Co., Wembley, Middlesex. Sept. 10, 1930, No. 27072. [Class 97 (i).] Apparatus for measuring the efficiency of a lamp, either in lumens per watt or in watts per candle, comprises in the first case means for generating voltages Ef, Ei, Ev proportional respectively to the lumens, the current passing through the lamp, and the supply voltage, and then measuring Ef-Ei-Ev. In the second case a voltage Ec proportional to candle-power in a chosen direction is generated and Ei+Ev-Ec is measured. The lamp 5 irradiates a photoelectric cell 1 either by its integrated illumination or by light in a chosen direction and the output from the cell is amplified by a valve 2. The voltage Ev is obtained from a resistance R3 placed in series with a resistance R4 across the lamp terminals and Ei from a resistance R3 in series with. the filament. The voltage Ef, or Ec is obtained from a resistance R2 in the anode circuit of the valve. The voltmeter 3 gives the desired reading.
