Abstract

355,884. Condensers. PREEN, A., Crown Works, South Mill Road, Regents Park, Southampton. June 30, 1930, No. 19861. [Class 38 (ii).] In a variable condenser having conducting screens 6 parallel to the vanes the stationary series of vanes 8 are supported from the screens by means of insulating nuts 10a, 10b engaging the screens and screwed to the ends of rods 9 bearing the vanes 8 so that the stationary vanes may be adjusted laterally by movement of the nuts 10a, 10b. In the condenser shown two of the rods 9 are provided with nuts 10a shouldered to allow the nuts to sink into locating holes in the screens while the third rod 9 has nuts 10b which abut against the screens, and the condenser has several sets of vanes gauged for simultaneous operation. Provision is made for final trimming by means of subsidiary condensers 17, the capacity of which is adjustable, after fitting covering shields 13, by means of insulating knobs 18 protruding through the casings 13.
