Abstract

355,668. Control of motors. SHAND, S. G., Westwood Works, Peterborough, and BAKER PERKINS, Ltd., Willesden Works, Hythe Road, Willesden, London. May 21, 1930, No. 15685. [Class 38 (iii).] Travelling to predetermined limits.-A control system for a washing-machine includes means for alternately energizing the motor 10 driving the cylinder and applying a brake, by de-energizing a coil 12, so as to bring the cylinder accurately to the load or unload positions. A cycle of operations is briefly as follows. Closure of button 59 causes a motor 91 to turn the water case to the open position, whereupon a switch 107 driven by the case opens the circuit of this motor and prepares the circuit of load button 48, 92. Momentary closure of this button causes energization of relay 46, which by closure of contact 34 maintains itself over a switch 13 driven by the cylinder, and which by closure of contacts 35, 36 causes intermittent energization of main and forward contactors 41, 42 of the motor 10 over contacts on switch 50 driven by the cylinder. The motor thus turns the cylinder in steps until it reaches the load position whereupon the switch 13 interrupts the circuit of relay 46. After loading, button 60 is closed, causing motor 91 to close the water case, whereupon switch 107 opens the circuit of this motor and prepares a circuit of a " start " button 141. Closure of this button energizes a relay 40 which maintains itself at contacts 24, and by closure of contacts 22, 23 energizes the main contactor 41, and the forward and reverse contactors 42, 43 according to the position of a switch 147 continuously driven by a motor 161. After the washing operation is completed, the motor 10 is stopped by opening button 140, and the water case is again opened by closing button 59. Momentary closure of button 49, 93 causes the motor 10 to rotate the cylinder in steps to the unload position. This action is similar to closure of button 48, 92 except that relay 47 and contactor 43 are energized instead of relay 46 and contactor 42. In a modification, Fig. 2 not (shown), the watercase motor is controlled by a single button, momentary closure of which first causes the motor to turn the case to empty the water therefrom and then, after a delay, to turn the case farther into the fully opened position. A subsequent momentary closure of the button causes the motor to reclose the case.
