Abstract

355,658. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. AKTIEBOLAGET LJUNGSTRÍMS ANGTURBIN, 17, Vastra Tradgardsgatan, Stockholm. April 25, 1930, No. 12861. Convention date, May 2, 1929. [Class 35.] In a cooling system for an enclosed machine in which fandriven cooling air circulates repeatedly through the machine and through cooling elements arranged axially beyond the windings, these elements consist of straight flattened tubes with their broad flat sides extending radially, the tubes being so arranged with regard to the air inlet and outlet passages that the air passes through the elements in radial planes only. The elements may be water-cooled and removably mounted in the machine casing in square or other symmetrical formation around the shaft axis. The Figures show a form in which the cooling elements 11, 12, 17, 18 are arranged in a square around the shaft axis,the left- and right-hand parts of Fig. 2 being cross sections on the lines A-A, B-B respectively in Fig. 1, which Figure is a vertical section in the plane COD, Fig. 2. A fan 9 drives the air over the cooling elements through two sets of ducts 14, 16 in the casing 6, cold air passing down the ducts 14 and inwards between the stator laminµ and over the lower end windings. A portion also passes into the parts adjoining the shaft, as shown at 15<1>. The air from the interior of the machine passes out radially between the laminµ to the ducts 16 and then over the cooling elements again. These elements, which are flanged and removably bolted to the casing 13, consist of flattened water tubes ribbed or separated from each other by corrugated plates 26, Fig. 3, which may be soldered to them. The tubes extend between two headers 21, 22 the former of which receives the inlet and outlet pipes 24, 25 and has a partition 23 dividing the tubes into two groups. The elements may be contained in a separate extension casing 13, Fig. 1, or in the main casing 16 itself and the ring 27 around the fan may be formed as a channel with drainage arrangements for leakage water.. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that a generator, cooled as described above, may be suspended at the end 4 by a housing 7 which forms a part of the turbine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
