355,395. Casting. HERAEUS VACUUMSCHMELZE AKT.-GES. and ROHN, W., 8, Dammstrasse, Hanau-on- Main, Germany. June 4, 1930, No. 17201. Convention date, Oct. 12, 1929. Addition to 349,779. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii).] Moulds.-A mould according to the parent Specification has the outer wall c, Fig. 6, formed from a rolled tube. The inner wall may be conical and the water-guiding strip may be formed by coiling a tapered strip b, Fig. 2, having notches r cut in its sharpened edge, and soldering to the wall c, if desired. The spiral may be stiffened by rods d, Fig. 3. The wall is screwed or shouldered to carry flanges g, k, m of which g and k serve to compress packing h and m may carry crane eyes. The base l may be clamped in position by an eccentric o and when released may be swung aside so that the billet may be extracted. The inner tube a may be made conical by forcing over a tapered mandrel if a conical ingot is desired. Casting-machines.-The mould may be formed with external bearings so that it can be oscillated or rotated about its axis during casting and make the structure of the cast ingot finer so that it can be passed directly to a continuous rolling-mill. A number of moulds may be carried on a rotary table or other conveying devices. Mould materials.-The tube may be of copper. Making wires, ribbon, and tape.-The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) claims also the rolling of blocks, cast in the oscillating moulds, directly into wires and bands. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
