Abstract
355,088. Respirators for animals. STELZNER, H., 53, Moislinger-Allee, Lubeck, Germany. Oct. 4, 1930, No. 29768. [Class 81 (ii).] A ga,s mask for animals, particularly horses, embraces the upper jaw and nose and comprises an elastic packing roll shaped to the upper jaw and bearing against the corners of the mouth. The packing roll consists in known manner of a covering having an elastic filler, the inner surface being narrower and more flexible than the outer. The roll 2 of a gas mask 1 is approximately rectangular and comprises a cover 4 of material such as leather or rubber and a filler of T-shaped cross section. This is preferably of felt and has a head strip 5 and a stay 6. The former becomes thicker and the latter narrower towards the corners of the rectangular roll, which are therefore more yielding. The intermediate spaces 7 are filled with a yielding material such as rubber sponge. A filter cartridge comprising a cup-like part 12 and sieve plates 11, 13 held together by set screws is filled with an absorbent and has an oblique protecting wall 19. A cap or bowl 20 mounted on. the cartridge is supported at its lower edge 21, which may be fabric covered, by the nasal bone, and has an exhaling valve 22. The mask body 1 of pliable impermeable material has a plate 28 fitted to the portion within the mouth. The roll 2 is fastened at the front by a strap 31 to the main strap of the bridle at 32, and at the sides by a band 36 passing around the throat band. The loop 38 may have a soft iron filler around which the band 36 is sewn.
