[Class 146 (ii).] A scouring device for kitchen utensils comprises a wire gauze bag 2, Fig. 2, filled with suitable material, e.g. fine wire gauze, having its contracted mouth 5 closed by a metal cap 6 provided with teeth 7 which engage the meshes of the bag. Apparatus for applying the cap to the bag comprises pushers 16, Fig. 6, and fingers 4, Figs. 2, 5, and 6, which coact with a plunger 8, Figs. 2 and 5. The fingers 4 and pushers 16 are mounted in grooves 15 formed on the underside of a plate 14 mounted on a flange 12 of a plate 11 supported by a frame 10. The fingers 14 are provided with hooked ends 17 having curved underfaces 9, and are a little longer than the pushers 16, both the fingers and pushers being provided with pins 18 which engage in cam slots 19 formed in a plate 20 mounted between the plates 14, 11. The plate 20 is provided with an operating handle 21, and the pins 18 of a finger 4 and an adjacent pusher 16 engage the same cam slot. The plate 11 is provided with a central boss 13 provided with a central hole 24 concentric with sleeves 22, 23 which guide the plunger 8. The plunger 8 is provided with a pin 29 engaging an eccentric slot 28 formed in the upper end of a spring- loaded pedal lever 25. In operation, a cap 6 is inserted through an opening 31 in the sleeve 22 above the plunger 8, and the filled bag is placed mouth downward upon the boss 13 ; the handle 21 is then operated to move the fingers 4 and the pushers 16 inwards to contract the mouth of the bag as shown in Fig. 2, whereupon the treadle lever 25 is operated to raise the plunger 8 and position the cap 6 over the mouth 5 of the bag, the teeth 7 being bent over by the curved faces 9 into engagement with the meshes of the bag.
