Abstract
354,854. Shooting-galleries. MEYER, J. F., 4222, West Lake Street, Chicago, U.S.A. May 20, 1930, No. 15502. Convention date, Aug. 8, 1929. [Class 20 (i).] A mechanical shooting-gallery comprises a pistol range enclosed in a cabinet, a pistol at the front of the range and a number of targets pivotably supported on endless carriers. As shown, the apparatus is enclosed in a cabinet 1 divided centrally by a partition 3 to form two shooting- galleries each provided with an automatic pistol 36 adapted to project balls at targets 9<11>, 10<11>. The targets are mounted on endless bands 9<1>, 10<1> in such a manner as to pass across both galleries. The bands pass around pulleys 13, 14, driven by an electric motor 21 and geared together to rotate in opposite directions and at differing speeds. The targets are hinged at their lower ends, Fig. 12, and are pivoted to clamps 12 on the bands in such a manner as to be movable from their normal erect position when struck by a ball. Fallen targets are returned to upright position by guides 42, and all the targets are maintained in upright position during their out-of-view travel by guides 18, 19. In addition to the travelling targets 9<11>, 10<11>, disappearing targets 32, Figs. 4, 6, and 13, are provided. These targets are pivoted to a link 32<11>, oscillated about a central fulcrum by the motor 21, so as to rise and fall through a slot 32<1> in the platform 8. The upper parts of the targets are pivoted and are displaceable when struck, and are returned to upright position during their downward movement through the slots 32<1>. An oil-retaining packing 35<111> serves to lubricate the moving parts. Stationary targets comprising discs 43, Fig. 14, are also provided and are each formed with a, central hole 43<1> through which a ball may pass to strike a bell 44. Projected balls are returned by shoots 7, Figs. 6 and 8, to receptacles 39 communicating with the magazines of the pistols 36. The pistols are mounted for universal movement, and with their receptacles 39 are removable from their operative positions in order to be stored within the cabinet during transit. The machine is freed upon the insertion of a coin and the manual operation of a knob (not shown). The knob is connected by a cam-slotted link 64, Fig. 8, to a totalizer 60 that counts the number of coins inserted.
