Abstract

415,553. Table games. RUSETT, D. E. DE, Midland Bank Chambers, High Road, Willesden Green, London. July 1, 1933, No. 18717. [Class 132 (ii).] An apparatus (which may be coin-freed) for playing a game simulating billiards comprises a level playing table hinged within a case, a cushion 4 at the top end of the table, cushions 5 secured at the sides of the table with gaps 6 between, a shoot 7 extending along each side of the table behind the side cushions to receive balls passing through the gaps 6, fixed means on the case for dividing the side shoots 7 into compartments and for retaining the balls in the compartments when the table is level, a swivelling spring plunger acting as a cue for projecting the balls over the table, and means for tilting the table and shoots to free the shoots from the fixed means and to return the balls ready for another game. The table 3, which may be provided with shallow numbered recesses, is enclosed by a glazed top 2 and is hinged at one end on pivots 3a, the other end being supported during play by arms 8 secured to a shaft 9. The spring projector 12 is mounted on vertical pivots in the front wall of the casing and carries a guide 12a for supporting the ball in front of the projecting plunger. In playing a game, the balls are brought singly on to the guide 12a as described below and are projected on to the table with the object of driving them through the gaps or pockets 6, where they are retained in the side shoots 7 by depending pins 10 secured to the casing and dividing the shoots into compartments. At the end of the game, an inserted coin operating through any usual coin-freed mechanism allows a turnbutton to be rotated, thereby turning a crank 33, arm 25 and table-supporting arms 8 to allow the front of the table to descend. The balls on the table and in the side channels 7, or on a shelf 19 adjacent the projector, then run down a shoot 13 to an elevator 17, Fig. 5. As the coin drops out of the coin box the crank 33 is liberated and returns, a trigger retaining the table in its sloping position. A rod is now pulled out by hand to liberate the trigger, whereupon the arms 8 are returned by springs 24, Fig. 1, so as to restore the table to normal level position. The leading ball in the shoot 13, Fig. 5, rolls into a cage 17<b> forming part of the elevator and is raised into projecting position by turning the projector 12 so as to cause a depending pin 12d thereon to engage and press down an angled extension 17<a> of the elevator which consequently raises the ball to a shoot 15 whence it rolls to the projector guide 12a.
