[Class 31 (i).] Stationary cutter machines.-A feather edge and waist-reducing machine to skive a light bevel at the forepart and a heavy bevel at the waist of a sole, comprises a feed-wheel and a knife 1 mounted on an arcuate slide actuated by a rack and eccentric. A pin 26 on a lever 105 is held by a pawl 111 engaging a rack 109 on a member 107 slidable on a member 28. Attached to the member 28 is a bracket 113 to which is attached a rod 117 passing through a sleeve 119 carrying a lever 129 attached to the arm 105. As the concave part EF of the blank passes between the feed rolls the pin 26 is displaced and swings the arm 105, and through link 129 the sleeve 119 is pushed along the rod 117 and the pawl 111 moves over the ratchet teeth. When the convex part FG is reached the pressure of the sole on the pin 26 stops and the parts 28, 107, 113, 105 swing clockwise by gravity. A link 149 is pulled to actuate levers 151, 23 controlling a half revolution clutch. The pin 26 is then lowered by a lever 43 as described in Specification 329,339, [Class 31 (i), Cutting and severing machines &c.], and the pawl 111 is disengaged by a shoulder 163 to allow a spring 143 to restore the parts. The pin 27 is carried on a lever 171 pivoted in a slot 175 on the bracket 113 and suspended by a lever 169 to a lever 167 pivoted on a pin 165 and connected to a rod 179 pivoted to an eccentric. When the pin 26 actuates the eccentric the rod 179 is raised and the pin 27 falls. A guard 52 falls on to the face of the sole and cam surfaces 189, 191 prevent the positioning of the pin 27 until the sole has travelled far enough to allow the guard to drop off the work. Movement of the guard 52 and carrying bracket is prevented by stops. A feather-edging or movable knifechannelling machine may be constructed without the pins 26, 27 but with clutch eccentric rack, knife, and treadle. To form the same channel around the sole but further in at the waist a fixed knife is used with pins operating an edge gauge through the clutch.
