Abstract
354,493. Sand-blast; rumbles and tumbling-barrels. WILSON, F. W. and TILGHMAN'S PATENT SAND BLAST CO., Ltd., Atlantic Works, Broadheath, near Manchester. June 25, 1930, No. 19336. [Class 60.] A sand-blasting machine, wherein the articles to be treated are contained in a tumbling-barrel comprises a casing a in which is carried, by spindles c, a frame b adapted to receive an open-topped barrel f of any desired form. The sand blast nozzle g is located over the barrel, which, during operation, is oscillated by crank gearing h .. k ; the spindle bearings also may be oscillated up and down in a direction at right-angles to the oscillation about the spindles c. In a modification, Fig. 4, the casing a is carried by spindles m at right-angles to the spindles c and is oscillated by crank gearing o, p, q, driven from the shaft which drives the crank disc k. A clutch t is provided'to allow of discontinuation of the oscillation of the casing, and feed and delivery doors q<1>, r are provided in the casing a; a hand-wheel u serves for bringing the casing to any desired position. The sand blast nozzles may be secured to the barrel, or to the casing, and may be moved by independent mechanism. According to the Provisional Specification the barrel may have a cover, it may be oscillated by rack and pinion mechanism, and the supporting spindles may be adjustable to vary the axis of oscillation. The barrel also may be tilted to facilitate travel of the articles therethrough.
