Abstract

354,315. Scrapers. MOORE, J. S., 5, Eastman Road, West Derby, and HUCKFIELD, C. T., 51, Springwood Avenue, Allerton, both in Liverpool. May 7, 1930, No. 13990. [Class 61 (ii).] A hand tool for stripping paints and like coatings carries electric heating elements which soften the paint and heat a scraper blade. A base 3, to which is screwed the blade 1, carries a hood-like member 5 having a boss 12 cast on it; the electric rod heating elements 71, 7<2>, 73 are held in a removable manner by conductor springs 8<1>, 8<2>, 8<3> secured to the back of a sheet of non-conducting material 9 by terminal screws 10, the whole being fastened to the boss 12 by a screw 11, cheek plates 6 having lugs 14 to position a sheet of asbestos 13, complete the housing for the heating elements. A handle 15 provided with a metal tube to carry the leads is connected to the casing by spacing rods 16 and plate 17 having a hexagonal boss which fits an enlargement in the bore of the handle ; a switch 27 and also a rheostat (not shown) may be provided to control the heating elements. A guard 28 is provided to prevent paint reaching the heating rods, and as a further precaution against this, a wire mesh screen 29, Fig. 4 (not shown), may be included. Instead of the arrangement of heating elements shown, a modification may be made so that the radiant heat is projected immediately in front of the blade without heating the blade itself.
