Abstract
352,065. Recording-apparatus. MATERIEL ELECTRIQUE S. W., 32, Cours Albert 1<er>, Paris. April 3, 1930, No. 10643. Convention date, Jan. 15. [Class 106 (iv).] Recording by co-ordinates.-A device for use with measuring instruments for recording the readings comprises a recordstrip driven at a constant or variable speed in accordance with time or other variable and a graduated rule arranged at rightangles to the travel of the strip on which is adapted to slide a cursor carrymg a marking member settable in accordance with the readings. The invention is particularly applicable to acoustic submarine sounding apparatus in cases where it is necessary to limit the apparatus required. As shown in Figs. 2 and 3, a record strip 1 passes between feed rollers 2, 3, from a supply roller 5 over a table 16. The roller 2 is driven through gearing 10 and a clutch 11 from a clockwork or electric motor 9. A rule 12 with an adjustable scale 15 for correcting the zero reading is mounted in the casing at right-angles to the direction of travel of the strip and carries a cursor 13 on which is mounted a perforating device 18. The device as shown in Fig. 4, comprises a hollow screw-threaded member 34 closed at its ends by centrally apertured caps 35, 36. A perforating needle 19 passes through the cap 36 and is carried by a spring supported piston 37 on which bears a piston 41 terminating on a rod 40 and push-button 39. A groove 17 is provided in the table 16 in alignment with the path of travel of the perforating needle. The speed of the recordstrip may be regulated as by the inclusion of an electrical resistance 25 in the motor circuit and the time abscissµ may be adjusted by manipulation of the milled heads 21, 22. Replacement of the record-strip is facilitated by hingeing the end wall 26 of the casing and by mounting the rod 5 in a slot 28 in a side plate the opposite end being supported on an adjustable pivot 29, the pressure being regulated by a spring 30. A uniform tension on the record-strip is ensured by brake springs 7 engaging the bosses of guide plates 6 on the roller 5. The scale 15 instead of being uniform may be set out in accordance with any law or formula involved in the apparatus to which the invention is applied. Thus, e.g., the scale may be logarithmic in the case of a venturi meter for measuring flow of fluids.
