Abstract
351,669. Measures of length. WILD SURVEYING INSTRUMENTS SUPPLY CO., Ltd., H. and SIDLER, E. H., Heerbrugg, Switzerland. May 13, 1930, No. 14714. [Class 106 (ii).] Comprises a geodic base-line measuring device with a sighting telescope, wherein the parts 6, 7 which are hinged together, are formed as hollow bodies within each of which is stretched a wire 14 carrying a mark and formed of Invar metal so that the distance between the marks is unaffected by temperature changes and may be adjusted accurately by displacement of the wires. The parts which are formed by tubes 6, 7 of semicircular cross section are hinged to swing around a pin 3. The hinge parts are formed with abutments 4, 5 which engage when the parts are opened out, a locking device, not shown, securing them in this position. Adjacent the free end each tube carries a housing 9 within which is a plate 10 carrying a triangular mark the plate being fixed to a member 12 mounted to slide in a slot 13 in the tube. A wire 14 of Invar metal is secured at one end to the member 12 and at the other end is disposed in an adjusting screw 15 in the hinge part. Two nuts 17, 18 are screwed on the end of the wire the inner nut bearing against the end 16 of the adjusting screw 15. A spring 19 at the other end keeps the wire taut. A telescope 21 is hinged to a pin and folds down between the members 6, 7 when the device is closed up.
